TRIZ is useful when ordinary brainstorming produces incremental ideas but the problem requires a more inventive shift.

History

TRIZ was developed by Genrich Altshuller and colleagues through analysis of patent patterns. They observed that inventive solutions often follow recurring principles, especially when resolving contradictions without compromise.

When to Use

Use TRIZ when a design or process improvement faces a contradiction, such as needing higher strength with lower weight, faster throughput with lower damage, or greater safety without reduced usability.
