Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register Template
An Excel workbook for an environmental management system: aspects scored for significance, linked objectives and actions, and a register of legal and other requirements with review dates.
The Aspects Register tab lists each activity with its environmental aspect, impact, operating condition, and life-cycle stage. You score severity and frequency from 1 to 5, and the workbook calculates the score and marks each aspect Significant or Not significant using an editable rule: a score at or above the threshold, a legal requirement, or a severity of 5. A summary shows how many aspects are significant.
The Objectives and Actions tab links objectives to aspect IDs with targets, owners, due dates, and a Days Overdue formula. The Legal Requirements tab records each requirement, its owner, the last review date, and the review interval, and calculates the next review date and whether a review is overdue. Example entries for a machine shop are included so you can see the formulas working before you replace them.

Key Features Inside the Template
Significance That Calculates
Score severity and frequency and the workbook applies your documented rule, including legal and high-severity overrides.
Objectives Tied to Aspects
Each objective links to an aspect ID, so effort follows the significant aspects.
A Requirements Register with Review Dates
Track each requirement's owner and review interval, and see which reviews are overdue.
Editable Rule and Threshold

Important Notes
Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register Template Frequently Asked Questions
How does the workbook decide that an aspect is significant?
It multiplies severity by frequency to give a score and marks the aspect Significant if the score is at or above the threshold in cell B3, if you answered Yes to a legal requirement, or if severity is 5. This is one common approach; ISO 14001 does not prescribe a method, so edit the rule to match the one you have documented.
How are days overdue and review status calculated?
Days Overdue is today's date minus the due date for objectives that are not complete or cancelled, and zero if not yet due. For requirements, the next review date is the last review date plus the interval in months, and the status shows Review overdue when that date has passed.
Can I add more aspects, objectives, or requirements?
Yes. The Aspects Register has 60 formatted rows, Objectives 30, and Legal Requirements 40. Drag the table's resize handle to add rows, and copy the formulas in the calculated columns.
